Elizabeth Harkins Hall

Hattiesburg, MS

The project was designed for the University of Southern Mississippi and the Department of Dance utilizing the existing School of Nursing building, Elizabeth Harkins Hall, to attain new spaces for the dance department.  Elizabeth Harkins Hall is located between Pearl Street and N 33rd Ave. but faces Pearl Street, which is just south of TAD.  The project goal was to renovate the building while keeping campus aesthetic design, with the implementation of new materials, methods, and concepts.  I implemented geometric shapes in the new design to create a relationship with adjacent buildings for that contained similar shapes for aesthetic conformity.

A Kids World Daycare

Hattiesburg, MS

A Kids World Daycare was a project visioned to provide a fully-child accessible facility that would be suitable for ages 0 to 4 years old.  The daycare is located on the corner of Parkway and Thompson Park Drive.  The design is traditional using materials like brick and asphalt shingle hip roofs.  The building contains 7 care spaces which are assigned according to age groups.  A large assembly space was included in the layout to provide a space for plays, banquets, dining, and other events for the daycare children and staff.  An essential feature of the daycare is the playground which is centered in the building layout on the outside of the site.  The unique thing about the placement of the playground is that the building acts as a curtain to keep the playground private to the public which is a safety precaution for young children.

Kitchens Architecture

Hattiesburg, MS

The program for the project was to design a full-time architecture firm for an architect.  The building is located on Hardy Street in Hattiesburg, MS.  The building utilizes materials such as concrete and glass curtain walls primarily in its design.  Also a patio area is implemented under the second floor on the northwest end of the building which enables staff to lounge.  The spatial layout of the building is typical as other firms containing spaces like restrooms, lobby, principal office, architect office, production staff, conference room, and an architectural library.  Hardy street is enhanced by the building's design due to the choice to use materials like concrete and glass that gives a more modern look, unlike, any other architecture in the area.
